Real cereal
Last year, Robbie, a color guard member we picked up in the middle of the season from another corps, came to breakfast the first day with the Colts and was dumbstruck. He just stood there, looking at the boxes of cereal set out on a table in front of the cooktruck.
I was on cereal duty that morning.
"What's up, Robbie?'
"Real cereal."
"Huh?"
"Real cereal. In boxes. Cheerios. Life. Fruit Loops."
"Yeah. So?"
"We never had anything like this in the (other corps)."
Nothin's too good for the Colts.......

She's a rainbow
Some of you will get the Rolling Stones reference. Others of you are too young. Some of us don't remember the Sixties, even though we were there.

Better get to work....
The head cook might catch me napping.
Lots of pictures up this morning at colts.org. And don't miss Nic's new video from February. Ah, I love the sound of Dr. Beat in the morning.
The footage is great and so is the music.
And the Cooktruck has got a good cleaning now (Marlin's just coming along behind me to get the spots I missed) and we're ready to roll on to March.

Happy Birthday, Buttons!
Great cake, too.
This photo and others should be online at colts.org soon. And then we'll resume putting up blog stuff until March 11.

What was your favorite meal?
What was your favorite meal from February camp?
This can be answered as a cook or as an eater.
Also, anything you didn't particularly like?
Comment away......

Too early in the season to be this emotional about the music
Oh my. To paraphrase "Yoda" from Saturday night's ensemble: We're gonna build the audience to an emotional peak, and then we're going to NICELY rip their faces off. Nicely, because we're those kids from the cornfields, from the HOTland. (Which, I guess, is the up-East way of saying Heartland.)
There were reports of goosebumps in the audience during Sunday's show. A heartfelt standing ovation at the end. And this kind of response from showgoers about 'Til There Was You: "I was not going to cry. They weren't going to make me cry this early in the season." This bunch of kids are going to make people cry. And laugh. And jump out of thier seats. And they're going to do it early in the season.
The guard was great. An entertaining winter-guard-type four-minute show that featured dance, flags, and sabres. All put together in just a day and a half. Wow and wow! Really interesting guardwork and design with some really subtle touches. Great job.
Great camp overall. Thanks to everyone. The drumline even got outside for a while on Saturday -- in February!
Oh yeah. Greg made announcements about drum major selection. But I'm not going to spill the beans here. Anyway, that would unofficial. Check colts.org for the official word.

Go cooks Go
Cooks go rattle those pots, pans, spoons and paintbrushes.
But most important of all, have some great funn this weekend.
I will be trying out some recepies in the meanwhile and there is a major paint job waiting for me the coming weeks. So in thoughts I will be with you guys.
Enjoy the music and performance on Sunday, you are considered to be lucky to see & hear the corps already.

Camp time again!
Have you RSVPed? Packed warm clothes? (Although I heard it may be warmer than usual for February.) Wonder what we'll have to eat. The kitchen crew seems to be shaping up nicely, so good food should be in the offing.
P.S. It's almost Valentine's Day. Don't forget your sweetie!
