Thanks to everyone!

Before I forget, thanks to everyone who volunteered to help the 2005 Colts get down the road, through the food line, and on the field.

I know people cooked, cleaned, sewed uniforms and flags, built props, bought Gatorade, donated money for drinks and fuel, baked cookies, delivered fruit, typed on the computer, sent and read emails, drove vans, shopped, carried off garbage, lit pilot lights, and did a thousand other things I don't even know happened.

There's no thanks big enough for everything you guys do. So this little one will have to do.

Man. All that and a kick-ass drum corps too.

It was indeed a good year to be a Colt -- or a Colt volunteer.

P.S. There will be a brief break for the Virtual Cooktruck while I catch up on my real life.... See you in a couple of weeks.

Today's News

Great run through today, marred only by Sebastian smashing a horn. He took a tumble and smashed the bell of the horn, leaving the imprint of his arm. The age outs gave their speeches to the corps.

There's a sign up sheet on the cooktruck to sign up for: 1) going to the airport 2)leaving with parents 3)riding the bus to Dubuque. How sad.

They are in for a fight tonight-here's hoping they are victorious. Go Colts!!

Today's News

Last nights I&E went great. The cymbal line WON! Brass ensemble came in 4th after 3 Cavie ensembles. Everyone had a good result, and the winning cymbal line performed for the corps upon their return.

No cooktrucks are allowed on Gilette stadium property, so the schedule is a little odd. There will be lots of packed lunches and bus snacks this week.

Mary is back on tour and was sorting lost and found. Lots and lots of parents have come by to say hi and help out.

Go Colts!!

Today's News

The Colt Cadets contingent has arrived with two I&E entries. The cooktruck gained 2 cook/helpers in Terri and Pat. The performances last night of all the I&E entries were fab. The drum major has stepped down from the podium to join the cymbal entry in a rendition of Malagana. (I think that's spelled right except for the tilde.) The Colt Cadets brass ensemble is playing cartoon themes and their percussion is playing Sponge Bob music. Colts brass were playing something "beautiful" but unidentified in the phone call.

During the sundaes provided by the town, the mayor held a reception for staff, cooks, and drivers. Everyone is thanking Tom for such a wonderful town.

The cooktruck thanks Pip for running (apparently) on no sleep, but working every second of the day.

Quarterfinals are tomorrow. Cross fingers, toes, eyes, and anything else you can think of.

Today's News

Marlboro is the hometown of Tom Lizotte and a huge drum corps area. The corps put on a dog and pony for the town last night and the stadium was packed! "More people than some shows this year." The newspaper ran a long article about the Colts coming town on the 5th. Everyone has been gracious and helpful.

Tomorrow competition really starts with Individual and Ensemle performances. The corps has more than usual, so keep a good thought for our guys. Go Colts.

Today's News

The cooktruck is at "Eden on tour." Shady, secluded beautiful school. A courtyard has picnic tables for them to eat at.They won't know what to do. The trip down on the New Jersey turnpike and Connecticut turnpike was bumpy and long. Lots of traffic and toll booths which really slowed progress. They arrived at 5 this morning and were greeted by a table full of grape, oranges, mini-muffins, and bus snacks. Kids, staff, and cooks got a little early morning snack before some floor time.

Thanks to Eric B's grandma who brought ten containers of Gatorade.

The meatloaf dinner last night was a huge hit. A Good Humor truck waited for them in the parking lot, but they walked right by it for this dinner. One corps vet called it the "best corps meal he'd ever had." That's because it was prepared by a pair of tag team head cooks (Barry and Charlotte) who are celebrating 10 years each of corps cooking. wow. Thanks you guys. It's been a very difficult schedule this week, moving nearly every night and a show almost every night. Good to know the vets are in there handling it.

In other news, The Colt Cadets had a successful Canadian swing and several of them with parents in tow are set to arrive on Wednesday to cheer on the Colts. Have a safe trip to them and anyone else luck enough to be making the trip.

Today's News

Beau, the proud Colt alum, is leaving today. He became the thermo-king and certified cook truck engineering tech during his stay on the truck.

Mary is off tour in Moline until Wednesday, visiting grandchildren.

The corps pulled in about 2:30 this morning. When the janitor got the door unlocked for the electrical hook-ups, cooks had already completed the water. The janitor was amazed and said, "I guess you guys are kinda self-contained." Gotta have an on-the-ball staff to keep up with those on-the-ball kids.

It's hazy and humid today. Several members of the New Jersey band are watching them do Visual. It's a great time to be a Colt.

Many, many thanks to you for the Gatorade campaign. 19 pledges were received and checks have been sent. Grandparents and former Colt parents have joined the effort. None of this happens without you. Thank you. Thank you.

A bunch of enthusiastic kids came through the breakfast line this morning. They had good floor time.

New flags being sewn through most of the night, mostly by Carol. Postcards are not in the show tonight because of size constraints at the gates. But they will return in Jersey. Mary, Bob, and Damien were instrumental in getting uniforms washed and ready for the show today. Thanks so much.

The kids are working hard and really showing what they have got this week. We should be (and I know we are) really proud of them and their work ethic. What a great bunch of kids!

Today's News

A couple of items from yesterday--the Outback food donation became snack, so the cooks whipped up beef stroganoff and mixed vegies for dinner. And some visitors from Naperville brought Gatorade. Thank you!
Pennridge band members and boosters brought lots of baked goods--cookies, cakes, brownies, etc. Yumbo!
The brassline is looking forward to a fabulous mouthpiece boil this afternoon while the uniforms are being washed. Wow, are these kids gonna be clean or what? Water bottles were bleached yesterday.

Good bye to Lauren. Thanks for all the hard work on uniforms and flags and on the cooktruck. Lauren had some volunteers and staff helping with the 24 new flags, including Olaf and Tom Lizotte. It's been busy in Coltsland.

Remember to send Postcards from Home.

Today's News

This crackerjack cook crew is tearing the place up. Everybody has gotten showers and a few have slept in. This morning, thanks to you, Jim J. was on his way to buy Gatorade. Thank you so much. Even the 10 year old daughter of the band director brought some Gatorade to the ole cooktruck. Keep it coming. It's 97 and humid at W.C. Taylor Middle School today. Everybody is looking forward to the rehearsal day tomorrow for a little more floor time after moving every day. Lauren is sewing new accent flags for the show. I don't know where they go or what they are, but it's an addition, not a replacement. Remember to send your Colts postcards from home. We hope to inundate them in Foxborough. Go Colts!!!

Gatorade Update

We've received nine pledges already for Gatorade purchases! Wow, thanks so much!!!!

If you too would like to contribute money toward the purchase of Gatorade for the kids, here's how:

1. Send Polly an email at jphauser@mchsi.com and tell her your donation dollar amount.
2. She will contact the cook truck, so they may immediately purchase the Gatorade.
3. Mail your check to Polly Hauser at 907 Farrell Ct., Dubuque, IA 52001.
(If you have already sent a check directly to the Colts office, please contact the office and ask that the check be forwarded to Polly. That way we'll be sure it's used for Gatorade!)

Of course, if you are going to visit the Colts in person, they would happily accept your donation of powdered Gatorade, but this provides a nice alternative for those at home wanting to help.

Thanks again for your help!!!

Today's News

The staff was meeting while the kids were eating breakfast. Lauren was re-painting guard shoes. (Doesn't she have the most glamorous job? thanks, Lauren.) Four cooks this week are Colts alums--Jim,Olaf, Beau, and Pip. Wow! The corps dog, Alamo, who now lives in Chicago with Jenny A's family, has gotten all her puppy shots and medicine for tapeworms. The vet says she is 4 months old. If you feel like showing up with something in hand at finals to give to the corps, napkins and paper towels will be needed by then. A big thank you to parents for the Gatorade campaign. Thanks, Sue.
As always, check colts.org for the latest official word on tour news, housing sites, mail drops, or other corps information.

Gatorade Donations

Several people who will not be able to visit the Colts in person have offered to contribute money toward the purchase of Gatorade for the kids - THANK YOU!! We've put a process in place to facilitate this:

1. Send Polly an email at jphauser@mchsi.com and tell her your donation dollar amount.
2. She will contact the cook truck, so they may immediately purchase the Gatorade.
3. Instructions on where to send your check will be forthcoming, or Polly will tell you in her email reply.

Of course, if you are going to visit the Colts in person, they still need your donation of powdered Gatorade, but this provides an alternative for those wanting to help that can't be there in person. Fuel costs this summer have stretched everyone's budget, especially the Colts.

Today's News

Happy Birthday, Adam B. It's shopping day in the lost and found. Shop for new t-shirts. The corps stayed at a fabulous school--North Lincoln High. The people were really great. They are close to Lake George, home of Nascar driver's lake houses. It's a sunny, beautiful day. David didn't think it was as humid as it's been. Last night's show was good, but the crowd was a little mediocre. No enthusiastic yelling for any of the corps. Today is repainting, repairing, refining day. The cooktruck is still begging for powdered Gatorade--they are out. If you are going to see the corps anytime soon, bring Gatorade. Your thirsty kids will really appreciate it.

Today's News

Welcome back Lauren for uniform fitting going into finals! She's already busy making those nips and tucks before finals.

The run through last night was fantastic, David said. Tom Lizotte is working with the corps and his presence is electrifying. David says the kids have a "take no prisoners" attitude! They are in great spirits. Word on the street is the the drum corps world continues to take notice of the Colts, even if the scores don't indicate it as of yet! GO COLTS!!

It's "be nice to cheerleaders day" today, since the corps is sharing the high school with a huge cheerleading camp!

Last night the Wal-Mart run was late (midnight). The kids had a blast as usual (it's the little things!). They made quick work of the shopping, as Wal-Mart kept extra staff on just a little later for them.

If you are planning to come visit the Colts at any time now through the end of finals, WE NEED GATORADE!!! Anything you could bring would be a great help. It's still hot, and the kids really need it. We are on our last box!! Thank you for all the donations that keep coming in!!! You're the best!

As always, check colts.org for the latest official word on tour news, housing sites, mail drops, or other corps information.
