New COMMENT guidelines for the Virtual Cooktruck

Hi. I've enjoyed the freewheeling nature of the exchanges here on the Virtual Cooktruck, but the Internet is sometimes an unruly place. I've had to delete a couple of comments from the board lately -- not from Colts or Colts parents, volunteers, etc. -- but from what I assume to be random visitors who don't have a life.

This is the price of fame. As we all know, the Colts are making people sit up and take notice. So we're getting noticed more here at the cooktruck. Some kinds of notice are good. Some not so good.

Anyway, that's why from now on comments on the Virtual Cooktruck will be moderated. One of the people who help with the Virtual Cooktruck will have to say it's OK to post before your comment will show up. That's why your comments may not show up right away. This will also head off spam comments, which we have not been hit with yet but that we know would show up eventually.

To make it easier for us, please sign your name (corps name or first name only and section -- i.e. Brass, Guard, Pit, Bassline, Snare, Sop, Cook, Driver, Harmless Drudge, Contra, etc.) to make it easier for your humble moderators. And if you'd like to enjoy the power and fame that comes with being part of the Virtual Cooktruck staff, drop me a note.

Revised DCI photography rules

DCI has drafted a revised policy on photography of corps and DCI events. You can find the new guidelines at dci.org or click here and a pdf file will be downloaded to your computer.

(If it's not downloaded, try right clicking and then pick "Save to..." If that doesn't work, let me know. It works for me, but I've only tried it out on a Mac. You'll need the free Adobe Acrobat reader to view it. If you don't have it, try going here.)

Picture Man

Picture Man1, originally uploaded by RodR.

Picture Man2, originally uploaded by RodR.

Scott (Scooter) emailed me these pictures he took of David at the February camp. Here's what he had to say:

"Mr. Speer has been catching pictures of me for a year now and I haven't seen him do it once. When I arrived at February camp my mission was to get a picture of him getting a picture, so I stalked him all weekend.

I finally got this picture of him ironically just before he got a picture of me. (My picture was taken seconds before the picture labeled "Here We Go" on February 16th.}

PS. Sorry the picture is so blurry; Mr Speer is an elusive prey!"

Thanks for sharing, Scott!

Camp today!

Tonight, actually. Actually, late tonight. And this is the big test camp. Can YOU find Jefferson school?

As it says over at colts.org:

February Camp will be held February 10-12, 2006, at Thomas Jefferson Middle School, 1105 Althauser St., Dubuque, Iowa.

We will begin at 11 p.m. Friday and conclude by 4 p.m. Sunday. Please arrive at 10 p.m. (no earlier than 9:30 p.m.) on Friday. Invite your family and friends to the performance at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Be sure to check www.colts.org (not here) for any last minute changes. We'll be on the road, just like you, if any news comes through.

See you after 9:30 tonight.
