Colts 2010 Wrapping up.

Just wanted to post one more time with some Picture links and a huge thank you for all the awesome email and positive feedback. It has been one heck of a season. Since it was our first we were astounded by the pace of the corps. All those members, all that equipment, all the volunteers on and off tour. The staff and interns… The logistics are mind boggling!!! But it all went down pretty smooth as far as we know Smile .

I think this Colts thing can be summed up with on word  - PASSION. Overused and cliché’ I am certain but truly fitting when it comes to the Colts and this activity. Passion for excellence by the members and Staff, Passion for the Members by the parents and volunteers and passion for the activity by all. It is a wonderful opportunity for the kids and for having gone through this they are all better prepared and developed for the rest of what life has in store. Forever changed by the hard work, sense of pride, and teamwork over the season.

Parents and volunteers this activity is expensive! In financial terms (fees, equipment, travel etc)  in the case of parents and in terms of time and sacrifice for volunteers. The pride we feel for our son Jacob (and all the Members) is an awesome reward. Knowing how valuable this will be for their development into great young adults makes this a bargain at twice the price.

It was nice meeting as many of you guys as we did. Had a great time on the truck (virtual and physical Smile) Have a Great rest of the year!!!

Sincerely,

The Schroeders

Below are some pictures I found but please send me any links you want and I will amend this post to include them these are just the ones I found. I know there are more out there and I am happy to post.

Pictures From the field

Haven’t had a Cook Truck call in a couple days (it has been very hectic) so I wanted to post some excellent pictures I have gotten from them over the last few days. We were actually able to attend the Ocean Springs show and WOW what great southern hospitality was bestowed upon all the corps. I guess that doesn’t make up for the brutal weather but it is something. The show was fantastic. Getting better every day.

I’ll get a full report out later. Today they are @ Pace High School in Milton FL. That is pretty close to Pensacola.

What the heck are “Must Goes”

I haven’t heard from the cook truck today (I think today was a free day) I watched the show and the changes are fantastic!!!

Since I had no update from the truck I thought I would post a few pictures I took during an interesting meal service. You see an item occasionally in the menu on the daily blog posts called “Must goes”. This is simply leftovers from nights past that we set out and let the members serve themselves. The kids love it because it is basically a free for all  Smile See here:

Must goes are very well received by the members as seen here

You take what you want and move along to make room for the next person. as we run out the volunteers bring new trays out. It really frees up space in the fridge which is, as you can imagine, at a premium!

Lindy and Jake take a small moment. You don’t get many!

Deserts are still typically served from the truck but that is it. This night we had Apple Pie, Lemon bars and maybe even Cheesecake (can’t remember as I was a stocker on that night in Cedarburg WI) I know those Kids can put away some Brats though. Man we served a TON of brats and dogs.

Post From Jody G (Departing Head Cook)

Jody G. left last night from St. Peter….had to be at work this morning.

New head cook – Deb L.

Volunteers on the truck….Lisa, Dale, Rod, Luba, Cindy, Anne – Bill is driving a van and also helps out doing just about anything and everything

The crowd at St. Peter was very enthusiastic last night. Lots of Minnesota high school bands attending and performing.

The weather yesterday was a welcome change….sweatshirts were needed in the morning and by mid-day the clouds moved out and the sun was bright in the sky ( as a Minnesotan – it was one of our perfect summer days!)

The show was not adjudicated and that felt a little strange…but, the corps did a fantastic show.  Everyday – it improves and more changes are occurring.  The cooks got to watch the run-thru yesterday and the energy on the field was felt by us all.  The members are an amazing bunch of young adults.  They have drive, energy and work ethic like no other. The staff are so very positive in their remarks to the members and I think that is reflecting in their work ethic.

I hope you can put on the blog also – a big thank you to the volunteers on the cook-truck…they are an awesome and hard working group of people.  I never miss the lack of sleep when I get back to my real world– but, I truly miss my drum corps friends ,fellow volunteers and the laughter we share and most importantly the kids who make this activity what it is.
