Day 57

Rehearsal Day: Natalia, TX

Following yesterday's rainy performance, the show coordinators were forced to cancel the evening's Drumline Battle between the Colts and the Crossmen. Their decision was justified when storm clouds rolled in; lighting sprawled out across the sky, only to be soon followed by torrential downpours. Aside from some a large traffic jam, the corps had a smooth drive out of Austin towards San Antonio. It wasn't long after the corps arrived in our second home of Natalia, TX, that the storm clouds opened up once again. For many, this was some of the heaviest rain they had ever seen. Within minutes, much of the ground was covered in inches of water. This has made for a wet and muggy morning here in Texas. However, miraculously, the fields are in great condition and the members are hard at work preparing for what could potentially be one of the most crucial and exciting performances of the summer; the San Antonio Regional.

Announcements

  • We would like to extend a HUGE thank you to all of the family, friends, and fans who have so graciously donated food over the last few weeks; ESPECIALLY the fruits and vegetables. The members love the fresh, healthy treats as a staple of their diet over the last few weeks.

Day 56

Competition: Round Rock, Texas

Following the longest drive of the season, as well as a little Texas shower (there is nothing little about anything in Texas), the corps had a very productive day preparing for tonight's show in Round Rock, Texas. The judges are taking notice, the crowds are loving it, and the members are pushing themselves to new levels.

Day 53

Competition: Lebanon, Illinois

After our last performance in Iowa, the corps has officially turned south. In less than 6 days, the corps will be in Texas; potentially the farthest that many members have ever been away from home. According to DCI.org, the competition is only heating up....

"Iowa Offensive: Colts passed up Spirit of Atlanta on July 12 in La Crosse, Wisconsin, besting the Georgia corps by a slim margin of five hundredths of a point. Colts widened that lead by nearly a point the following day in Muscatine, Iowa. Before Saturday, it hadn’t been since the 2010 DCI World Championships that the Colts had finished ahead of Spirit. "

Day 51 - La Crosse Regional UPDATE

Regional: La Crosse, Wisconsin

UPDATE: Step Off for all corps have been delayed by one hour. The show will begin at 6:00 PM

Less than 30 days. The 2014 DCI Tour will be over in less than 30 days. The beginning of regional season, otherwise known as the national tour, is bittersweet. Even as the hornlines get louder, the batteries get cleaner, the shows get bigger, and the crowds get more enthusiastic, one cannot help but recognize that our time together is quietly disappearing. For most, this is the most exciting part of tour; the momentum created in the next 2 weeks will propel the drum corps through the season. Things will get interesting tonight in La Crosse; the corps will have a change to meet face to face with corps like Boston Crusaders and Spirit..two corps that the Colts haven't seen since the first few shows.

Day 49

Rehearsal Day/Laundry: Kewanee, IL

Each summer, there are many communities whose hospitality truly goes above and beyond what we could have ever asked for. Although their drum corps, the Kewanee Knights, folded in 1995; the communities' care and support for the activity is as vibrant and lively as ever. It isn't a surprise to see a car full of young children climbing out the windows to get a closer look at the drum line rehearsal, or neighbors taking a seat in the stands to view the brass rehearsal in the stadium; a familiar reminder of the same sounds that resonated through the same neighborhoods years ago. Along with invitations for free movie passes at the local theater, fresh ice from local restaurants across the street, and a front page article in the Star Courier, everyone in Kewanee is going out of their way to insure we have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. So to everyone, especially the staff here at Wethersfield High School, we thank you for your support and hospitality. You have truly made us feel at home here; this is a place we will not soon forget.

Tomorrow we will host a community performance at 7:30 PM at Wethersfield High School.

Day 47 - Music on the March

Home Show: Music on the March

"There's no place like home....."
Dorothy couldn't have been more correct. After a quick drive North from Camanche High School, the corps arrived to Senior High School in Dubuque right on schedule. Today will be an exciting day filled with alumni, friends, family, seasoned drum corps veterans, and those who have never been to a drum corps show before as well. For many, this will be their first time seeing the 2014 Colts in action; or maybe seeing their son or daughter for the first time since they left for a summer of drum corps 47 days ago. Regardless, tonight's show will be unlike anything anyone has seen before. Widespread changes of music and drill will be spread throughout the show. New props, staging, and even costumes might be revealed. Most noticable, however, might be the revealing of the 2014 guard show flags. All in all, tonight will be an exciting night for everyone; both spectators and corps personnel alike. However, the same question still remains;

Are you ready to see what's on the Dark Side of the Rainbow?

Day 44

Parade / Competition: Michigan City, Indiana

A parade on the 5th of July? You bet! Each year when Michigan City hosts the "Pageant of Drums" DCI competition, all of the drum corps also participate in their 5th of July parade. The corps is staying at Michigan City High School (8466 West Pahs Road), a long time supporter and housing site of the Colts, Colt Cadets, and numerous other drum corps.
The competition tonight should be a spectacular one, with performances from: Legends, Colt Cadets, Genesis, Colts, Troopers, Phantom Regiment, and the Cavaliers. Almost every memeber falls in love with the show; if not for the great stadium, for the Dairy Queen across the street....

Day 42

Rehearsal Day: Vernon Hills, Illinois

Performing for a sell-out crowd is one thing. When it's a home show, its a truly incredible experience. With a home crowd comes a great cheering section. The enthusiasm and applause were well deserved however; the corps had one of their best performances to date. Still riding the energy from last night, the Colts have moved into their housing in Vernon Hills for a rehearsal day as well as the 4th of July Chicago Parades. Both members and staff are anticipating a very productive day which will propel the corps into the next round of competition.
