Today's News
It's a bright, sunny day with high clouds. It's hot, but not too bad - about 90. The school is nice and big, with a good stadium. The cooks and staff are staying in a different building, so they get showers to themselves (only a cook would understand the significance!). The band director and everyone there have been very accommodating.

Oh, we're actually staying in a town called Windthorst, TX.

The corps arrived about 4 AM. The kids had a great free day. Some experiences included walking along the River Walk, shopping, eating of course, seeing a movie, and many others. A good time, and well-deserved break was had by all.

John and Suzie drive.

As always, check colts.org for the latest official word on tour news, housing sites, mail drops, or other corps information.

Well, it took me over 24 hours, but I finally arrived home from San Antonio this afternoon! I made both flights yesterday, but missed my connecting bus, so ended up spending the night in Chicago! Anyway, I just had to put down a few words as I attempt to de-program and join the real world again. The past week was difficult for all attempting to deal with the heat, but everyone did remarkably well. However, the "amazing" factor far outweighed the difficulties.

Sam, the composer of "Ride" showed up again on Friday to work with the kids. I was assigned the duty of taking care of "Little Sam" (as I dubbed him) - Sam's eight year old for the day (thanks, Greg!!). Needless to say, it was an interesting day in many ways. I got to spend time with "Big Sam" in the car and learned many things about him as a composer and as a person. I also got to sit next to him as he worked with the corps in the evening. How else can I say this? He is unbeleiveable, and we are soooo fortunate to have him helping the Colts. He cares passionately about his music and wants the kids to do well. It was an amazing experience.

I also want to mention Mike Farmer, the new tour director. He brings experience and caring to this position. Personally, I feel fortunate to have gotten to spend so much time with him, and I think we're lucky to have him on board.

Finally, I want to thank everyone for a fabulous week. When I'm with the Colts' family, I feel at home, even though I don't have anyone marching anymore. The kids are super (but we all knew that, didn't we??), the staff is doing a great job, the drivers have their work cut out for them keeping healthy tires on the vehicles(!), Mary - well, she's just Mary, and cooks - what can I say? You're all wonderful, and without you nothing would work. We kinda' found that out this week, didn't we? Those kids are precious, and it's our job to take care of them!

Thanks for giving me the chance to share! FORWARD TO MADISON!
