Hello to all of the Colts family....

I have arrived back home after 12 days on the road with the finest group of folks in drum corps. What a joy it is to cook and visit with the kids/parents/staff everyday of the week. I am constantly amazed at the positive attitude and fortitude of these 15 to 21 year olds. To do what they do with the challenges of heat, cold, rain, sun and very little sleep everyday is awesome and inspiring to those of us who are privelged to watch.

Oh, the stories I could tell, if I could only remember them. The day's blur into one and you actually don't have a clue what day it is or where you are. Fortunately, we have the white board on the cook truck, home of all information, notes, schedules and menus. It is truly the the one source you go to for all needs.

My thanks to all the cooks who have gone before and after me. You help make every day be a special day for the kids...You wear many hats on tour...nurse, cook, cheerleader, consoler, etc. My first days on tour in June were wonderful...but this last couple of days were bittersweet as my son ages out this year and I may not have the oppotunity to come back next summer and enjoy this experience once again. As I sat on the plane coming home from Canton...the tears streamed down my face. There is no place better than being on the cook truck with such dedicated moms, dads and friends.

The show is fantastic....hopefully you will have a chance to see the final product. A DVD is made at quarter and semi-finals...make sure you get one. The new closer they put on the field for Allentown is a true spectacle. Everyone is so excited to play and perform it. No matter what happens with the judges score, these kids have to be proud of themselves for the product they put out on the field day after day.

My husband and I are excited to get to Indianapolis and to finals....what a week that will be! Thanks again to David for this web-site. We have gotten so many comments from parents on the road as to how great the day to day updates are one way of connecting with their child.

Got to go....it will be a long week until I get to see the kids in Indi...if you are driving there....please consider bringing some cookies, whatever amount..the cooks can add them together for a dessert for the corps....never thought we would be able to say this, but we ran out of cookies and the kids are craving them.

One parting word...if you didn't have a chance this year to help out and your child does corps next year...make every effort to do so at camps or on the road...it is a life changing experience.

A Colts fan forever...

Hello from a new Texas fan,

I saw my first ever DCI show on Friday night in Orlando and my jaw hit the floor. The Colts were fantastic, my heart was beaming, and I was hooked!

I was on tour for 8 days and I never imagined what it took to put on a production like this. The day to day operations are mind boggling. Traveling, cooking, cleaning, watching, cooking again, and then traveling again. I must say this was an experience I will never forget. I am so glad I was able to volunteer on the cook truck. I highly recommend it for any parent if they want to get a true picture of what their child does everyday during the tour. Them just telling you doesn't even begin to describe it. These kids are awsome! Full of dedication, spirit, and kindness! I can't even put it into words!

I want to say a sincere thank you to Jody, David, Marlin, Jim, Kathleen, Jim, and Olaff for helping me with my first explerince with the Colts and DCI. Your continued patience with all my questions was much appreciated! What an awsome experience it was to be able to watch these fine young ladies and gentlemen continually practice day in and day out in any type of weather and at each meal say "Hi cooks, smile, and say Thank You so much, your great!" was truly amazing.

I still can't beleive all the changes the kids did to the show in one week. Their performance in Allentown was even more amazing than in Orlando. I was and still am amazed at their dedication and perseverance!

I wish I could attend the finals in Denver but the real world calls. Good luck and thanks again for the memories!

A new Colts fan!
